What’s in store for you: Comprehensive examination
The comprehensive examination is intended for families who are struggling with eating difficulties with their children. The aim of this service is to provide a comprehensive view of the current situation and offer concrete steps leading to the improvement of the current situation. As part of the examination, we focus on individual aspects of eating, which together create a picture of what happens at your family tables. Although it would be easy to blame the whole situation on the use of a tablet at the table or a delay in the child’s motor skills, in the vast majority of cases there is one problem behind everything, which subsequently affects other areas of eating. As part of the examination, we monitor the child’s health aspects, the child’s ability to handle food and process it, the child’s and parents’ eating behavior, nutritional status and other relevant factors.
What is a Comprehensive Examination?
A comprehensive examination is a multi-step service that provides an evaluation of the current state of the child’s food intake and the setting of a strategy to improve the current situation. The service includes a 90-minute consultation with parents and other caregivers. The consultation is carried out by the main therapist. The presence of a child at this consultation is undesirable, even in the case of school-aged children.
A comprehensive examination is suitable for a child who:
- has difficulty handling the bite in the mouth, chewing or swallowing,
- refuses to eat certain types or textures of food and refuses to move to the next “level” of the food ladder (for example, from a mushy diet to a solid diet),
- Rejects foods of certain tastes, colours, temperatures and is limited in trying new foods and meals,
- he consumes a small or, on the contrary, a large amount of food, which is reflected in his prosperity
- coughs or chokes when eating,
- has difficulty transitioning from probe to oral feeding,
- behaves inappropriately during meals (shouts, cries, runs away from the table, throws food away, falls asleep).
The examination procedure is as follows:
1. Booking an examination date through our booking system. The reservation must be paid immediately, or an alternative payment method (issuance of an invoice or application of a benefit program) must be agreed with our receptionist.
2. After booking, you will receive questionnaires and instructions for recording a home video of the child during the meal by e-mail. Video is key to making an examination. The child is not present at the meeting precisely because we need to get all relevant information from the normal home environment and not from the doctor’s office environment, where there are always different conditions and various disturbing factors. The questionnaires are detailed and you don’t have to worry about having to repeat the information to us at the meeting. Information is key for us to set up a quality therapeutic plan even before the joint meeting.
4. Our team of therapists will evaluate all the information sent and create a therapeutic plan with a specific strategy just for your child.
5. This is followed by an appointment, which can take place online or in person at our office.
6. After all the information has been prepared and incorporated, you will receive an examination report that contains a strategic plan for improving your child’s eating skills and habits.
7. Based on the indication, we can continue to see each other as part of consultations , some of the therapy variants or examination, our cooperation will end.
Online or at the doctor’s office
Your time is valuable and that is why we want to make our services as accessible to you as possible. The investigation can thus take place online via the Google Meet platform. This means you don’t have to plan a trip or arrange babysitting. You can join the consultation from the comfort of your home. Just open the link that comes to you in the confirmation e-mail when ordering the service.
However, if you wish to meet in person, the examination can take place directly in the office of The Eating School. However, the course of both forms of examination is identical. During the examination, you do not work directly with the child in any way, and on the contrary, his presence at the meeting is not desirable.
The way to a satisfied and well-fed child
The goal of the Comprehensive Examination is to identify all key factors that negatively affect a child’s food intake. If these factors can be successfully identified, intervention becomes all the easier. These are mostly small adjustments, but together they will start to improve family well-being during the moments spent at the table, which will have a cascading effect on other areas of family life.
The Eating School is here for you. Our goal is to support you every step of the way to improving your child’s eating habits and skills. You can book an examination date in the reservation system . If you are still hesitating which service to choose, contact our reception .
